Summary. Inflammation is an important component of the development and progression of osteoarthritis (OA). One of the promising drugs is ginger root extract, as there is data on its analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. Aim. To establish the efficacy of ginger root extract and its anti-inflammatory properties in knee osteoarthritis.Materials and methods. The study included 35 patients (7 men and 28 women), aged 30 to 80 years, I-III radiological stages according to Kellgren-Lawrence. Features of the course and efficacy of the treatment were evaluated using the VAS, the number of acute flares of osteoarthritis, and the average duration of taking NSAIDs by patients before and after treatment. The levels of non-specific indicators of inflammation (ESR and CRP), and cytokines (IL-1, IGF-1, NO) also studied. SPSS Statistics was used for statistical data processing.Results. The study revealed statistically significant differences in the VASH, the number of acute flares of osteoarthritis, the average duration of taking NSAIDs, the levels of immunological (IL-1, IGF-1, NO) and non-specific (ESR, CRP) indicators of inflammation between the two groups of patients before and after treatment. Conclusion. The administration of ginger root extract caused not only a positive therapeutic effect in OA but also a statistically significant decrease in indicators, acute flares of osteoarthritis, and average duration of taking NSAIDs, which must be taken into account in patients with osteoarthritis on anti-inflammatory therapy.
