JAB-Q — A TOOL FOR QUALITY OF LIFE ASSESSMENT IN CHILDREN WITH JUVENILE IDIOPATHIC ARTHRITIS

Ivanova V.G.

Summary. Topicality. Today, most childhood rheumatologic diseases are not life threatening, but they harm children and their families and negatively affect its overall quality. Nowadays in Ukraine the doctors have no multivariate questionnaires, that would include a simultaneous assessment of morning stiffness, disease activity, joint lesions and extra-articular symptoms, posture, biopsychological state of patients, side effects of drugs, and the effectiveness of schooling. Objectives. To improve methods for assessing the quality of life of children with JIA. Methods. JAB-Q is a new multivariate biopsychosocial and clinical questionnaire for assessing juvenile idiopathic arthritis, which was created by a group of experts from Turkey. From January 2015 to January 2018, 6–18 year old children with JIA were involved in the study. In 2019–2020, pediatric cardiorheumatologists from 11 regions of Ukraine took part in a study of the quality of life of children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis, for which a Ukrainian version of the JAB-Q questionnaire was used. Results. 310 children in Turkey and 134 children with JIA in Ukraine were surveyed. The questionnaire has three parts, including a clinical form, a child form and a parent form. JAB Q was easily understood by children and their parents. The filling time is 10–15 minutes. Conclusion. JAB-Q is a valid and reliable multidimensional biopsychosocial outcome tool that can be used routinely in research and clinical practice of pediatric rheumatology.
