Summary. This paper presents the stages of the joint diseases’ development theory, ranging from ancient antiquity to the present days, and on the materials of the medallic art (part of the historical discipline of numismatics), the portraits of famous physicians who made an invaluable contribution to the diagnosis, pathogenesis and treatment of articular pathology provided 135 illustrations.
