Summary. One of the important strategies for effective and efficient treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is associated with the early use of synthetic disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (sDMARD) and biological agents (BA), both as monotherapy and in combination. In this paper, we analyzed the data concerning systematic approach in the treatment of RA in a variety of clinical situations, as well as to determine the indications for the patients with a poor adherence on BA monotherapy and long-term treatment associated with inefficiency and/or toxicity of traditional sDMARDs.
