Summary. Summary. Osteoarthritis (OA) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) are the most common diseases. Today, important role in the development and progression of OA and type 2 DM is given to pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as interleukin-1β and tumor necrosis factor-α. Understanding of the pathogenetic mechanisms of these diseases should help to optimize early diagnosis and timely appointment of adequate therapy, that is very important for reducing disability in these patients and improve quality of life.
