Summary. Summary. In order to study the effect of chondroitin sulfate-4,6 on bone mineral density in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee were studied 120 patients with knee osteoarthritis aged 37 to 78 years (108 women, 12 men) who are diagnosed II–III stage for X-ray Kellgren — Lawrence. Patients depending on the therapy were divided into 2 groups. Patients of the main group received chondroitin sulfate-4,6 to 500 mg 2 times a day for 6 months and NSAIDs (nimesulide or diclofenac) as needed. Patients of the control group received only the above NSAIDs. Six months from baseline ultrasound densitometry was found negative dynamics of T-index and Z-index in standard deviations only in the control group of patients, but after a year has been marked by negative dynamics in both groups, and significantly lower the in the study group. So found a positive effect of chondroitin sulfate-4,6 on bone mineral density. The high clinical efficacy and pronounced aftereffect of chondroitin sulfate-4,6 in patients with gonarthrosis II–III stage for radiological Kellgren — Lawrence.
