Golovach I.Yu.

Summary. The paper presents a biography of a famous Turkish physician Hulusi Behcet’s, whose name is entered in the history of medicine and rheumatology as the name of the person who first described an unknown disease — a systemic vasculitis. That Hulusi Behcet first combined three main symptoms — ulceration of the mucous membranes of the mouth, genital ulcers and uveitis with hypopyon — a single disease and suggested a new separate disease. In 1936 he presented a long-term observation of three patients with the same type of symptoms. In 1947, during the International Medical Congress, held in Geneva, at the suggestion of Prof. Mischner from the Faculty of Medicine University of Zurich, symptoms of a new disease had been officially recognized as a new disease became known as «Behçet’s disease.» Behcet is one of the many dermatologists who have made invaluable contributions to the development of modern rheumatology.
