A CASE OF GLUCOCORTICOID-INDUCED OSTEOPOROSIS IN A PATIENT WITH OVERLAP SYNDROME: PRIMARY BILIARY CHOLANGITIS ASSOCIATED WITH AUTOIMMUNE HEPATITIS TYPE 1

Nekrut D.O.1, Zviahina O.V.2

Summary. Primary biliary cholangitis and autoimmune hepatitis are the most common type of overlap syndrome, which occurs in approximately 8–10% of patients. For the treatment of overlap syndrome (AIH-PBC), first-line therapy is most often used, which includes both ursodeoxycholic acid and corticosteroids, with or without azathioprine. Systemic bone loss is a serious extrahepatic complication. Аim. To describe a clinical case and investigate the management tactics of a patient with glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis, primary biliary cholangitis combined with autoimmune hepatitis type 1. Results. The course of the disease, diagnostic measures and treatment received are described. Conclusions. This clinical case of management of a patient with a rare combination of AIH and PBC, complicated by glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis, requires special attention of practicing doctors, for the possible prevention of the progression of the overlap syndrome and the appearance of various complications during pathogenetic treatment.
