Summary. The above information shows that the atherogenicity of cholesterol, cholestanol, vitamin D and plant sterols (β-sitosterol, campeste­rol, stigmasterol) causes them to be a strong hydrocarbon structure that is indestructible in lysosomes of macrophages.
